Portable Generators Will Keep the Lights on at the Super Bowl – Boston, Atlanta

30 January 2014 Bookmark and Share

No one will forget when an electrical malfunction turned the lights out at the Superdome in New Orleans during last year's Super Bowl, interrupting the second half for 34 minutes. Playing Monday morning quarterback, everyone wished there were more portable generators on site.

This year, the organizers in New Jersey have been working with the NFL, the state Sports and Exposition Authority, portable generators and local utility officials to make sure that the lights don’t go out for the 100 million fans who will be watching.

In addition to finding and fixing any electrical system defects that might cause an outage, they've had to protect the power supply against the threat of an ice storm or other extreme winter weather too.

A football game with a rock concert at halftime takes some complex power. Not to mention the pregame events such as an outdoor tailgate party attended by 10,000 people at an adjacent racetrack. In total, the Super Bowl will require about 50 percent more juice than a game at MetLife Stadium: 18 megawatts of electrical capacity.

Safeguards have been put in place for the Super Bowl. Besides upgrading the infrastructure, officials also have installed separate portable generators, which are to be fueled with biodiesel, to provide an additional 6 megawatts of electricity. Much of the nonfootball extravaganza, including the halftime performances by Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, actually will be powered by the portable generators.

Granted, your business is not the Super Bowl, but it is most likely even more important to you than the big game. If you need to protect your business from unplanned power interruptions, portable rental generators can keep your business running.
